PENGGUNAAN SOFTWARE HADIS DALAM TRADISI KAJIAN TEKS KLASIK MAHASANTRI MA’HAD ALY HASYIM ASY’ARI TEBUIRENG

Abstract

It is widely understood that contemporary digital technology greatly facilitates anyone in searching and researching religious texts. However, the question of how higher education boarding school students (mahasantri) at Ma’had Aly can maintain the authenticity of classical study methods (turath) amidst the use of hadith software remains open and under-researched. Answering this question is crucial to understanding how Ma’had Aly responds to modernity without losing its turath-based scientific identity. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, drawing from direct interviews with lecturers and mahasantri, observations, and documentation of students' assignments at Ma’had Aly Hasyim Asy’ari Tebuireng, which were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The research findings reveal that the integration of hadith software in hadith courses gives rise to a pattern of "conditional compromise." In this pattern, the software is merely utilized as a tool for quick word searches or indexing (Takhrij al-Hadith) and as a collector of all transmission chains (Jam’u ath-Thuruq). Meanwhile, final determinations regarding hadith quality (Hukm as-Sanad wa al-Matn) and narrator criticism (al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil) remain firmly anchored in the reading of classical texts. This pattern is influenced by the boarding school (pesantren) culture, which strictly preserves the chain of transmission (sanad), as well as rigid institutional regulations that bridge the demands of the modern era with the obligation to read turath books. These findings rectify the assumption that the influx of technology will ruin the sanctity of traditional learning methods; conversely, they demonstrate that mahasantri successfully harness technology to reinforce the tradition of classical text studies. Accordingly, this study contributes to the field of Islamic education studies in the modern era by providing a concrete example of how to harmoniously unite digital technology and traditional pesantren traditions.
